Introduction to Ontario’s DriveON Program

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has introduced the DriveON program, a modernized, digital vehicle safety and emissions inspection platform that replaces the paper-based Motor Vehicle Inspection Station (MVIS) program, which ended on March 31, 2025.

DriveON ensures vehicles meet Ontario’s stringent safety standards through a transparent, efficient, and fraud-resistant process using digital tablets for real-time data collection, including photos and vehicle data verification. This program applies to light-duty, passenger, and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, ensuring road safety and compliance.

A Safety Standards Certificate is required in Ontario for:

• Registering a rebuilt or salvage vehicle (requires both Structural and Safety Standards Certificates).
